Every bird has its own sky. Let’s help them soar toward it.
Bev’s Bird Boutique has designed the Flyper Heavenly Hammock as an orthopedic support for domestic birds suffering from or recovering from:
- Soft support for weak or injured legs and feet, injuries or paralysis
- Cozy, nest-like comfort that reduces stress
- Gentle movement encourages muscle engagement
- Easy access for birds with limited mobility

Note: Bird's Feet Should Always Touch a Solid Surface
Use of the hammock is not suggested for birds with any open wounds on the chest, abdomen or back. The hammock is also not suitable for birds with damaged wings. Our Super Sling is more suitable for birds with damaged wings.

- Accustom the bird to the hammock slowly . This is not a “drop and run” product. Let them get used to it using treats, praise and distraction on the initial set up. Allow them to feel safe in this new nest cradle.
- The birds should be sized according to our measurement chart and fitted with the corresponding hammock size. If the hammock is too big, the bird will not be able to look over the edge and may become restless. If the hammock is too small, the bird may break out of it or get painful pressure marks.
- The neck and head area should be free. We have supplied a little head and neck support cushion should the bird need support in this area.
- The bird’s wings must be able to rest comfortably on the hammock mat. We have supplied both a single wider restrainer strap and 2 thinner restrainer straps,
- either of which can be used. These should only be used if the bird is very restless.
- Place the bird carefully in the hammock and only use these restrainers if really necessary. You have to ensure that the bird’s breathing is not restricted by restraining too tightly. The restrainer straps can be fastened over the bird’s wings or under the wings and around the body allowing the wings to flap freely.Â
- Observe the bird closely during the first few hours to ensure that it can cope with the Heavenly Hammock.
- The bird should NEVER be left unattended in the hammock as unexpected problems can occur and it would not be able to free itself from its position on its own. The bird would be dependent on quick human help if needed.! Bevs Bird Boutique have done our utmost to avoid any complications, but we cannot be held responsible for any occurrence if the avian is left unattended.
- Keep observing the avian closely for the first hour or so once fitted. Make sure they are calm – calm is safe. Exhaustion from trying to get out of the Heavenly Hammock for extended periods of time could risk dangers leading to death from exacerbated stresses.
- Ideally, the bird should only use the hammock for a few hours at a time, being taken out for breaks to eat and drink.
- The bird’s feet should always be in contact with the ground, even if only slightly.
- This can help the bird to feel calmer as well as prevent atrophy of those foot and leg muscles.Remove the bird from the hammock every half hour or so to eat and drink.
- If the bird accepts the hammock, you can set up and raise a little bowl or grains or water in front of it and it can feed independently. Putting a ruler on its side, across in front of them, through the bars. of a wire top carrier or hanging basket, gives you something to hang a small set of hook on plastic D shaped bowls to. Bolting a parrot flat perch directly in front of them gives a place for food and water.
- Please protect the bird from other members of its species. Other birds may try to sit on it or peck at it. Remember to protect as well from other members of the household.
- Position the bird in front of the TV – this will help to prevent boredom.
- If the avian is left in the hammock for extended periods of time (several days up to months) there is a risk of embolism. ( similar to a person who is unable to move for a long time. Do warm baths for legs.
- For these avians, don’t forget to hold their bodies and let them “fly” (Flap their wings). If they will not willingly do loads of flaps, hold them up with your arm vertically, your hand supporting them in a flight position, then in a controlled manner, drop them down. While holding the body or supporting their legs and feet, the slight rapid descent will automatically make the wings flap. then you bring them back up, pause for them to catch their breath, and repeat. It helps keep up the cardio. However, if you see them beginning to pant then that is enough. Doing these “big flaps” multiple times per day is crucial for good cardio longterm.
- Another thing that will help long term Super Sling or Heavenly Hammock customers are doing regular physiotherapy with them. Gently and only within their natural range of motion, done half an hour after the day’s painkillers, is ideal. A little of this exercise in the morning and evening is good. Gentle joint flexion, leg bends and foot stretches, depending on the individual avian’s medical issues can be done by gently holding their limbs and moving them delicately. Keep the muscles moving and in good health.
- Check your avian for pressure points regularly, especially if he is lying in the hammock for several days.
- Please check the legs regularly to make sure they are not pulled up and get caught in the fabric.
- Birds with broken or fractured wings should not use the hammock. Our Super Sling is a better option for this.
It is preferable that the Flyper Heavenly Hammock be washed by hand and in cool water. This will help preserve it for longer.
- A hammock sling. ( Shaped to take the contours of the bird’s body).
- A head and neck support cushion.
- Two thick body / wing restrainers. Can be placed over the top of the wings or under them just around the body of the bird.
- Four thinner body/wing restrainers. Can also be placed over the top of the wings or under them as required.
- Four adjustable hanger straps which should be hung far apart and to the side of the hammock. This will allow for better balance. See illustration below:

A Great Tip!
For Flyper Heavenly Hammock users - attach the ties of the hammock to the edges of a plastic crate, box or laundry basket. In this way your bird can be easily moved (maybe placed in front of the TV) or from room to room as you go around the house. But remember to place something inside the crate so that your bird’s feet can rest or touch something feeling like THE GROUND! Suspended in this way you can also easily take your bird outdoor for a bit of sunshine 🙂
