At Bev’s Bird Boutique, we believe every bird deserves freedom — even the ones healing or living with disabilities. That’s why we’re proud to launch the Flyper Super Sling, a supportive, comfortable sling designed to give injured or special-needs birds the chance to move, perch, and experience life in a whole new way.

Freedom looks different for every bird. Let’s help them find theirs.

Bevs Bird Boutique have constructed this Super Sling as an orthopedic aid to domestic birds suffering or recovering from :

Note: Bird's Feet Should Always Touch a Solid Surface

The bird should only be suspended in a Sling that fits its size.  Birds are sized according to their weight and species.  A bird may be able to wriggle out of the body harness if the size is too big and if the size is too small and tight for the bird, it may restrict his breathing and he may also develop pressure marks. ( See size chart ).

  • We suggest that two people work together to ensure that the bird is carefully suspended in the Sling.
  • Detach the hanger ties from the little body harness.
  • One person should sit on a chair with the bird on his /her lap and put the body harness straps over the bird’s head and fasten the hook and loop closure on the back.
  • Make sure that the side straps of the body harness fasten BEHIND the bird’s legs.
  • Hold the bird gently in your hands. whilst the other person attaches the 4 corner hanger ties to the 4 rings on the body harness.
  • Make sure that the bird’s wings are  over the top of the back hanger ties.
  • Ensure that the bird is well balanced and comfortable.
  • You will note that there are 2 press studs on the front hanger ties.  Here you can adjust and shorten to elevate the bird’s head a little as you feel to.
  • You can then fasten the middle hanger tie to the slider on the back strap of the harness for extra support. ( There is an adjustable slider on this central hanger tie).
  • Our Flyper Super Sling comes with a detachable wing or body restrainer strap.
  • Using this restrainer  strap is optional.
  • You may wish to secure the bird further.   In this case fasten the restrainer strap right around the bird’s body under the wings and over the straps of the body harness.
  • If your bird has a damaged wing which needs to be held still, then you can fasten the restrainer strap around the body and over one or both wings as you feel to. Here you can position the restrainer strap under the straps of the body harness.
  • This restrainer strap is also very useful to use if you have a very restless or flapping bird in your care.
  • The restrainer strap attaches to the front of the body harness by means of a small strip of hook and loop closure material. This holds it in place so it does not slip down.

Body and wing restrainer for additional stability

  • The bird’s feet should always be IN CONTACT WITH THE GROUND even if only slightly.  In this way your bird can tap his feet or even bounce. This will make them stronger and if they are recovering from an injury, may help them to fully walk again.
  • Feeling the contact with the ground will help the bird feel calmer as well.
  • Please protect the bird from other members of its species so that they are not pecked at etc.
  • Please observe the bird very carefully initially to make sure he can cope with the Sling. Let him get accustomed to it slowly.
  • PLEASE PLEASE do not leave the bird unattended in the Sling as unexpected problems can occur. Bevs Bird Boutique have done our utmost to avoid any complications but we cannot be held responsible for any occurrence if the bird is left unaccompanied. The bird cannot free itself from its position, it is dependent on quick human help if need be.
  • Do not leave your bird suspended for extended periods of time.
  • Make sure of correct sizing and a comfortable position of the slider on the back strap of the body harness. If you pull the slider too far up the straps behind the neck it may become too tightly fixed and there may be a risk of suffocation, bruising or even a crack in the airbag.
  • Keep observing the bird.  Exhaustion from trying to get out of the Sling or being suspended in this unusual situation  for extended periods of time, could risk a danger of death.
  • The bird must continually be examined for pressure points especially if he is suspended for longer periods of time. eg. in the case of complicated leg fractures on which no pressure should be exerted.
  • If the bird has to stay suspended for a longer period of time (several days up to weeks) there is risk of an embolism, similar to a person who is unable to move for a long time.  Do warm baths for the legs and don’t forget to hold their bodies and let them “fly” ( Flap their wings). It helps keep up the cardio !    However if you see them beginning to pant then that is enough.
  • Do not forget to take them out of their Sling regularly so that they can eat and drink.   You may be able to set up a little seed dish or tray in front of them just high enough  for them to feed themselves whilst suspended.
  • Birds with open wounds or pressure sores should not be suspended in the Flyper Super Sling to avoid additional chaffing or irritation
  • A padded body harness  ( softer and more comfortable)
  • 4 Vegan friendly Hanger Ties (faux leather)
  • 1 Central vegan friendly Hanger Tie (faux leather) (with adjustment slider)
  • A padded wooden Hanger onto which the Hanger ties are attached.
  • A removable body and wing restrainer
  • A stretchy suspension tie  ( allowing movement and “bounce”)
  • A swivel hook ( attached to the suspension tie allowing the bird to turn)
  • Detach the hanger ties from the body harness.
  • It is suggested that this body harness be hand washed in warm water.
  • Thank you for taking good care of your special needs bird.
  • We trust and pray that he will be more comfortable in his Flyper Super Sling.

The middle leatherette tie in the Super Sling Hanger is optional (this is the tie with the clip on it which can attach to the slider on the body strap).   This tie has been added to the pack should you have a very wriggly or flappy bird. Should you feel a need to use this central tie please note that it has an adjustable slider on it. Adjust this slider so that this tie does not pull tightly or upwards once connected and clipped to the buckle slider in the body suit.

Allow this tie to be a loose connection for extra safety only.   If this central tie is pulling too tightly, it will pull the body suit tightly against the birds chest or crop and this can cause suffocation, bruising or damage to the air sac.   Monitor your bird closely ensuring that he is comfortable and happy. Prolonged suspension or attempts to escape can lead to exhaustion or death.
