How Often Should You Change Bird Diapers (Flypers)?

Many people do not realize that the actual Bird Diaper (Flyper) does not always need to be removed and replaced with a clean one each time it’s soiled by the bird.

Our bird diapers (Flypers) pair well with women’s panty liners that can be easily obtained from local supermarkets and pharmacies.

The panty liners can be cut in half and placed inside the Flyper poop pouch. This poop pouch is designed to hang low from the bird’s vent, preventing any soiling of the bird’s feathers or the sticking of poop to the bird’s vent.

When necessary, you don’t need to remove the entire Flyper garment; simply replace the soiled panty liner with a clean, fresh one.

How Long Before You Need To Change The Liner?

  1. For small to medium-sized adult birds, change the liner every 3 to 4 hours (or sooner if it becomes full).
  2. For larger birds (especially parrots), you may need to use 2 panty liners stuck parallel to each other with a slight overlap. These liners should be changed every 1 to 3 hours, depending on the wetness or amount of your bird’s poop.
  3. Younger (baby) birds tend to produce wetter poops and seem to poop more frequently. You might need to change the liners more regularly or layer them during this stage of your bird’s life. As they grow older, their poops become firmer and easier to manage.

Maintain Your Bird’s Cleanliness

We do not recommend that bird diapers (Flypers) be worn for more than 10 hours within a 24-hour period.

Avoid placing a Flyper on your bird at nighttime; the vent needs time to “air.”

If your bird has had any previous bacterial infections in the vent area or develops one, it’s advised not to use bird diapers (Flypers) at all.

Bird Diaper Care And Tips

Our Flypers are made from high-quality lycra (swimwear) fabric, ensuring they maintain their shape even after washing.

Flypers can be machine-washed, but hand-washing may extend their lifespan—especially if the Flyper is embellished with lace or ribbon.

The Flyper suit is fully lined with an extra water-resistant layer in the poop pouch area, ensuring no permanent stains on the outside.

IMPORTANT: Ensure that you fasten the hook and loop fastener properly. This prevents the “hook” side from snagging the Flyper fabric.

Using a tumble dryer might shorten the life of the elasticated Lycra fabric, so we recommend air drying on a line.

PLEASE NOTE:

Our Flypers are fully avian vet approved.
